Was I being abusive in this situation?

Last night, my wife was in a one of her pissy moods, and when she is in one of her moods, she enjoys saying things specially designed to get under your skin and make your blood boil.

In this case, I had gotten off the phone with my sister, and she said "You were talking way too long for that to be your sister…I’ll bet that was probably some whore you met on your lunch break at work wasn’t it? And why were you talking so quietly? You never talked to me that long on the phone." I decided to refuse to argue with her, and I ignored her and started watching television. She then said "Oh, so you can talk to your whores, but you can’t talk to your own wife, huh?"

I left the room and went to the next room to use the computer. About 5 minutes later, she appeared in the doorway and said, "Wait, let me guess–lesbian porn? Or maybe threesomes? You men are all the same."

Without saying anything, I picked her up, put her over my shoulder, then set her outside to the front porch and locked the door after her. She pounded on the door yelling for me to let her back in, but I just slid her credit card under the door and told her that the Motel 6 a few blocks away probably accepts Visa.

She went away, and about an hour later, the doorbell rang–and I saw a police cruiser parked outside. It scared me a bit, and I didn’t answer. Now this morning I woke up to find a message on my cell phone voicemail from the police asking for me to call the precinct and answer some questions.

Was what I did illegal or abusive? I thought I was handling the situation the best way by first trying to avoid it, and then just simply putting her out for the night (and I know for a fact that she wasn’t going to just voluntarily leave upon my request). I don’t want to be like other men who scream, throw objects, punch holes in walls….or worst yet, punch the woman themselves. I vowed that to myself.

What did I do wrong that the police are now involved?
