There are merchant accounts that costs lower but still reliable. But, you have to consider also the monthly volume of transactions of your business. This determines how much your fees will cost especially the transaction fees. But basically, the trend right now is some or the fees are being lessened or if not, totally taken out. These are in lieu of improving client loyalty and attract potential clients.

Depends what kind of transactions you want to handle and the volume of transactions you intend to handle.

You’re going to find two kinds of processors: Those with lots of fees and those with high flat-rate fees.

For example, you’ll find companies offering something like this: A processing charge of $25 per month, 3.5 percent of each transaction, 50 minimum transactions per month, 25 cent penalty for all transactions under 50, an application fee of $200.

Or, you’ll find someone who says he doesn’t care how many transactions you have per month, he wants 15 to 25 percent of each transaction, period.

If you’re looking for the former, check your business bank; all the national / regional commercial banks have a payment solution.

If you are doing merchandise, try Network Solutions / VeriSign.
